Lesson Outline
April 30, 2013
We at the Center for News Literacy spent a large amount of time working to follow and then parse the news coverage, and social media aspects of the Boston Marathon Bombing. For an entire week, audiences were transfixed by the drama that played out after a bomb made from a pressure cooker was detonated near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 15 2013. Being that this was one of the first major manmade disasters to occur during the social media age, it provided a vast amount of information that came not only from journalists, but from spectators, both in and away from Boston.
Through the use of an interactive Prezi presentation, we present a collection of lesson plans that are tied to an interactive timeline of the events of Monday, April 15 through Friday, April 19 2013.
Lesson 1: Exploring the Process of Verification through tweets about the Boston Marathon Bombing
